About AFPH

About Us

The Alliance for Preventive Health, Inc. (AFPH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that addresses chronic health disparities while enhancing the cultural competency of health professional students. AFPH enables student volunteers to deliver culturally-competent cardiovascular preventive health services to local underserved populations through a four-tiered model of screening; education; referral; and patient navigation.

Our History

In 2005, a group of passionate New York City medical and undergraduate students formed AFPH as a grassroots venture. These students were eager to address health disparities amongst the poor, strenghten local healthcare systems, and create a culturually-competent healthcare workforce. AFPH fulfills these goals by partnering with medical educational institutions and local healthcare providers such as hospitals, medical schools, nursing schools and community health organizations. As a grassroots organization, AFPH trained hundreds of volunteers and screened thousands of patients in collaboration with multiple institutions in the New York Metropolitan Area. In tandem with these accomplishments came an increasing demand for AFPHs service. To meet this demand, the founding board members established AFPH as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit orgazination in 2008.
